Srinagar, June 20: President Ram Nath Kovind has approved imposition of Governor’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect.
The development came a day after the BJP announced its decision to pull out of the alliance with Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP in the state.
With the President’s directive, the reins of Jammu and Kashmir are now back in the hands of Governor N N Vohra who will be running the state for the fourth time now, and will be completing 10 years as J&K Governor on June 25.
The Governor NN Vohra last evening had written to the President after concluding his consultations with all the major political parties in the state following the collapse of the government after BJP withdrew its support to the PDP. “J&K Governor has forwarded his report to the President of India for imposition of Governor’s Rule under Section 92 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir,” a Raj Bhawan spokesman said on Tuesday.
